Professor Asif Ahmed is a globally recognised biomedical scientist, entrepreneur, and innovator with a distinguished career spanning academia, biotech, and venture creation. With a pioneering track record in translational research, and commercialising breakthrough science, he brings invaluable expertise to Asteria Space’s mission of accelerating deep-tech innovation in the space sector.
As the Founder and CEO of MirZyme Therapeutics, Professor Ahmed has led the development of novel therapies for pregnancy-related disorders, securing millions in funding. His leadership in life sciences has resulted in over 40 global patents, reinforcing his ability to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and commercial success.
Throughout his career, he has held senior academic positions at institutions including the University of Birmingham, Aston University, and the University of Edinburgh, where his research has shaped global advancements in cardiovascular and pregnancy-related healthcare. He is also a current Visiting Professor at Southampton and Stanford University. His expertise extends beyond research, having played a key role in scaling high-impact ventures, and fostering strategic partnerships across academia, industry, and government.
Professor Ahmed has received global recognition, ranking in the top 0.5% of scholars worldwide with an H-index of 73, and is credited as the founding architect of Aston Medical School.
